About this image.
The two blue reflection nebulae (NGC 6726/6727 & IC 4812) dominates the
scene whilst the dark nebula Bernes 157 provides a complimentary and
contrasting thick layer of dust, harbouring star forming regions (though
mostly
obscured). Consequently, this area is about as dark and star poor as you
can
get. NGC 6726/6727 and IC 4812, estimated to lie around 420 light-years
distant, are associated with hot, young stars, typically B2 or hotter. Dust
in the
cloud scatters light from the stars so that it appears blueish to an
observer.
The double star BRS 014 (magnitudes 6.6 and 6.8 and separated by 12.7 arc-
seconds), are responsible for the reflection occurring in IC 4812. |
